Festival of Lights in Branson
During the Christmas season, there are lots of spectacular lights all through the city. The Branson Area Festival of Lights begins November 1, 2011 and ends January 2nd, 2012. There are several light displays all around town that you can drive through, or, if you don't want to drive, you could Ride the Ducks and let them take you to the lights all over Ozark Mountain Country. The Trail of Lights at Shepherd of the Hills The Shepherd of the Hills Homestead is lit up with an array of gorgeous lights. Drive through in the convenience of your car then indulge in hot chocolate in the gift shop and take a ride to the top of Inspiration Tower for a beautiful view of the Branson city night lights. Located west of Branson at the Shepherd of the Hills Homestead, November 1, 2011 through January 2, 2012 Silver Dollar City's Old Time Christmas Old Time Christmas begins November 5th at Silver Dollar City and runs through December 30th, 2011. Here you can see the miles of lights and the breathe-taking five story Christmas tree. There are also several shows like The Christmas Carol which will get your holiday off to a great start. Sit back with a cup of Hot Chocolate or Wassail and travel back in time to celebrate the holidays. Branson history from 1983 to 1991.
1983 - The Roy Clark Celebrity Theatre opens. 1987 - Box Car Willie is the first nationally known celebrity to purchase his own theater and perform on a permanent basis. "Good Morning America" from the ABC national network does a show from Silver Dollar City. Presley's Jubilee and Baldknobber's Jamboree are fetured entertainment. 76 Music Hall opens featuring local entertainers. 1988 - Ozark Mountain Christmas begins to extend the visitor season into November and December. Factory Merchants Mall opens 1989 - Shoji Tabuchi opens his own show in what was the Ozarks Auto Show (now Yakov's American pavilion) 1990 - Mel Tillis moves into Shoji's former theater. Mickey Gilley purchases Country Music World. 1991 - Branson featured on CBS's "60 Minutes" At season's end, Jim Stafford purchased The Stars of the Ozarks Theatre and names it the Jim Stafford Theatre and schedules opening for 1992. 1882 - Branson was founded by Reuben Branson as a river trading post. 1907 - Shepherd of the Hills book is published. 1912 - Branson has a population of 1,200. 1949 - Hugo Herschend negotiates a 99 year lease on Marble Cave (renamed Marvel Cave) and 2,000 surrounding acres (Silver Dollar City). 1957 - The Mabe Brothers begin Branson's first music show, The Bladknobbers. 1960 - Silver Dollar City Opens. 1967 - Lloyd Presley, with his family, built the first theater on Highway 76 (363 seats) Presley's Country Jubilee.
