New airport providing a boost to Branson

The tourist town of Branson, Mo., is ready to take off even further as the new Branson Airport is set to open in May, upgrading the traditional rubber tire operation to an affordable, jet-setting destination.

The Branson Airport, the nation's first privately financed and operated commercial service airport, will open its 7,140-footlong runway on May 11. The $155-million airport could usher in a new era for the town of 7,500 nestled in the Ozarks of southwest Missouri.

In September of last year, officials at the Branson Airport inked their first significant deal, giving an exclusive route to low-fare air carrier AirTran Airways. AirTran will have no competition on the Atlanta-to-Branson route for an undisclosed amount of time.

Yet until now, no major Branson business has specialized in combining all that Branson has to offer, in one place, to specifically help people plan their own personal special event in Branson.

-Branson MO Wal-Mart Sagging Roof Declared Safe- 

Linda Young - AHN Editor Branson, MO (AHN) - This week's winter storms dumped a load of snow and ice on the roof of a Wal-Mart super center in Branson, MO, that caused the roof to sag, forcing the evacuation and closure of the store.

Store employees noticed the sagging roof and evacuated the store around noon on Thursday.

Workers were cleaning the snow and ice off the roof.

But engineers who inspected the building for structural damage said everything was okay. They said the sagging was really flexing under the load, which is how the roof is supposed to react to a heavy load.
